The Model Minority Breakdown

A Collaborative Psychoeducational Group for Asian American Women of All Ages

Asian Americans often encounter numerous barriers when working on our mental health, such as cultural stigma, shame, lack of resources, racial and generational trauma, and concepts such as the “Model Minority” myth.  Asian American women often receive the bonuses of being exoticized, stereotyped, and underestimated. All these concepts sound formal and distant. However, they can all impact such lives whenever not properly handled or processed.

As an Asian American, my goal is to bridge the psychoeducational gap between Asian American women, how they perceive their mental health, and how our larger systems impact us.  Glasshouse Effect Psychotherapy PLLC will host a free 5-week psychoeducational group for Asian American women.

Topics discussed will include:

  • How our diverse Asian American experiences and backgrounds influence our day-to-day functioning
  • Discussions and psychoeducation around topics such as different types of trauma, shame, vulnerability, values, and permitting ourselves to fail
  • Learning sustainable and culturally adapted therapeutic tools

Important Information:

  • Requesting Asian American women ages 18-45
  • October 14th thru November 11th (5 weeks)
