Alina Odom, Intern
Hello! My name is Alina Odom and I’m currently a second-year Masters of Social Work intern from Texas State University. In my first-year internship, I worked with a nonprofit organization geared towards helping local Asian American domestic and sexual violence survivors in Central Texas. Before that, I received my Bachelor of Arts from the University of Colorado at Boulder, with focuses on Cultural Anthropology, Humanities, and Chinese Studies.
I am strongly interested in working with BIPOC folk, especially Asian Americans. As a white-passing biracial Chinese American myself, I am passionate about advocating for mental health education and awareness in spaces where clients can feel safe and validated. This is especially the case as I know what it’s like to grow up under “the Model Minority Myth”, have had to learn how to navigate spaces as a biracial individual, and have seen firsthand how mental health can impact Asian Americans and their families. I’m excited to work with Glasshouse Effect Psychotherapy Center this fall and look forward to helping you garner a sense of peer support in group!
